Drawing 1 Measuring
Observational drawing is the art of putting a mark on the page that represents something you are seeing. In order for the mark to be "accurate" it should be the right LENGTH, in the right DIRECTION or ANGLE, and be in the right POSITION on the page. How do we draw accurately? Measuring. You should spend a fair amount of time measuring before you start drawing. Determine the size of what you are drawing and where it needs to fit on the page. A couple exercises to help with measuring:
The dot quiz- These dots are on an 8.5X11 page. Use measuring to find relationships between the dots and plot them accurately on your own paper. Don't trace-
Use a pencil and your thumb with an outstretched arm to find measurements. Move your thumb up and down on the pencil for different sizes. Compare measurements (widths, heighths, lengths, etc.)
Draw the 4 basic shapes from observation- in line only (no shading). Use the measuring tools from the exercises above to make an accurate drawing. Compare sizes and positions of "landmarks" to find the right relationships.
Use this image to draw from.

But, It's Nugget Night.
Finished this one out today- I'm sure there are some tweaks that need doin'... but I feel pretty good about it. My kids love it- so that's okay.

2 pt. perspective for Drawing 1
Drawing a cube in 2 point perspective
Drawing a cube above or below the horizon line in 2 point perspective
Using a grid for quick and easy perspective drawing
Some tips about ellipses(circles in perspective)
Some samples of perspective drawings:
1 pt. Perspective
Using blocks to build basic shapes, refining shapes with more detail
2 pt. perspective grid sketch
Finished drawing after building basic shapes in perspective:
Using 2 and 3 point perspective grids to sketch more organic shapes (people) but still using blocks and simple shapes
refined drawing based on sketch5 above
2 point perspective grid drawing focussed on architecture of building and placement of people in the environment
finished drawing based on above sketch
